1. Head Transplant
One of the major reason of death is illness.
Therefore, human thought "what if I can change my body into younger and healthier one?" and the result of that idea is 'head transplant' technology. It`s grafting head into healthier body. You may think this technology is impossible, but experiment with monkey, dog, rat was successfully performed in 20 years ago. Moreover, Dr. Sergio Canavero (Italian doctor) is planning to apply this technology and cure the patients from 2017 and already many patients are waiting for this graft. Know more in:

2. Old Rat, Young Rat Experiment
From old days, young blood was considered the key to rejuvenation.
Therefore, scientists did the transfusion experiment with rat, and found out that receiving blood from young rat could improve old rat`s brain activation, muscle strength, and bone density. After the improvement of molecular biology, scientist tried to found out the key molecular of youth. Dr.Wagers` team from Harvard Univ. Found certain protein called 'GDF11' from young rat`s blood. Moreover, her team discovered it`s function (it activates stem cells) and published the paper into CELL at 2011. Thus, this experiment showed us that if we could find similar functional protein in human, and make it into medical product, then it will help lot at anti aging. 3. Reverse Aging
Scientists found out that telomerase is the key of immortal by researching lobster. Telomerase is enzyme which cures the telomere (scientists think that damage at telomere is the main reason of aging).
Therefore, they tried to make reverse aging technology by using telomerase. Recently, Ronald A. DePinho, a Harvard medical school professor of genetics, engineered old rat`s gene and restored the telomerase. After few weeks, they found that rat`s brain size was getting bigger, their fur was regrowing, and started to smell again. It was signal of reverse aging. 4. Silicon Valley`s Billionaries
Similar to Qin shi hwang, many people on earth are searching the key of immortality.
In this section, we will focus more about effort of silicon valley`s billionaires. First, the CEO of Palantir Technologies, Peter Thiel, donated $3,500,000 to Methuselah Foundation to encourage the research. Methuselah Foundation is working on curing cell damage, over division of cells, and mitochondria mutation, etc. Second, Sergey Brin, founder of Google, is working on project Calico with Abbvie. He invested several billion dollars at this project, and the goal of project calico is conquering death and being immortal. Finally, Google Ventures made plan to invest at company related to researching immortality. Google Ventures said they will invest 0.14 billion dollar at company which works at anti aging, reverse disease and life extension. |
